City Edge : Reimagining Dublin

City Edge is an ambitious, regeneration masterplan for 700 hectares in south Dublin, sitting between Dublin City Council and South Dublin County Council. The two local authorities have been collaborating since 2019 on a strategic framework plan for a network of new residential, sustainable villages in this brownfield, industrial district. Helen Shaw, as part of her creative work as writer in residence (2025) with Maynooth University’s Data Stories Project is exploring City Edge as a case study in urban, climate-just planning. She wants to understand what it tells us about the opportunities, challenges and barriers to shaping and creating liveable cities that benefit people, places and nature. Helen audio recorded interviews with key planners in the two local authorities and the Land Development Agency. The storytelling from that work is shared here with links to video, audio and text - including Helen’s essays from the case study and on the concept of the climate-just city. The work formed part of the exhibition Fictions, Frictions, Evictions at the Digital Hub in October 2026, curated by Brendan Fox.
